Cover of VOGUE India for September
Let's talk about it!
If it wasn't for the umpteenth time that VOGUE went with Sonam Kapoor for their cover shoot, I would be even more appreciative of this. I think with new actresses coming into the industry, lately it has become somewhat of a trend to grace the cover as a part of the promotion for their movies. If anything it really demeans the power that VOGUE is meant to have as a magazine. You will be surprised however, that upon my research I found that she has been on the cover for only 5 times, comparatively. Other contemporaries have been on VOGUE just as many times, if not more: Deepika (8), Katrina (6), Priyanka (6), and Kareena (4). Keep in mind, this magazine had its first issue out in 2007, just let that sink in a little bit with all these numbers.
As I have said before, the cover of VOGUE is something you are meant to earn and not land over and over again. However, let us all sit back and pray for actual models to do their job and not having it taken away by actors in ads, shoots and ramps as often.
With that out of the way, I can appreciate the idea behind this shoot. I really like this dark, gloomy, and murky location. It's mysterious, and it is a good backdrop to give it a little bit of an old movie feel. Although I'm not a fan of this first outfit on the left, it sticks out as way too modern and not fitting in with the feel of the whole provocateur look.
Although if I had any say in what kind of a shoot they should have gone with, I would undoubtedly say Disney oriented considering her new movie coming out. I would have been really interested to see some form of an Indian Disney princess, to make it colorful, cheerful, magical and feminine. Something over the top and overdone with fantastical gowns and settings, I think it would have made it tie into something more current for her. This shoot should have been saved for Katrina Kaif with her new movie Bang Bang on the release, as it intertwines with the whole spy, action, thriller genre.
I really love this kind of a color palette personally with deep hues of blue and violets with a contrast to the warm, subtle reds with a backdrop of beige and dark neutrals. It's quite classic. The touch of leather, fur and capes is a nice transition for the fall look. She's got killer legs, we can all admit that.

The over-volumized hair is more preferable compared to it being tied back in a few shots. I like that the makeup is visually quite heavy, but it doesn't go overboard because of the lack of any actual color. It's structured her face: her brows, her cheekbones and eyes, ending with very light lips.
Although if there is one very obvious accessory that's missing in this story, its the sunglasses. I mean you can't get more mysterious than that can you?
So what did you think about this cover shoot, like it or hate it?
